Their family moved to England when Samir, their father, decided that it was time for the family to move on and create a better life for themselves. With everything that occurred during that year in the outside world, it was no wonder that the Patil parents protected their children and tended to over-protect them from the outside world as often as they could. However, that did not stop Padma. Even as a young child, she’d been curious. She knew it was disrespectful of a proper Indian girl to be outspoken or to overtly question the head of the household, so she learned quickly how to find out information on her own through keen observations and watching those surrounding her carefully. She became astute at understanding body language and could quickly adapt to new situations around her because of this skill. Even when she was younger, Padma realized that despite their closeness, she was quite different from her twin sister. Parvati was outspoken and happy to share her opinion with the world, whereas Padma took it upon herself to heed her father’s lessons about how a proper Indian daughter should behave. Nevertheless, the twin sisters were quite close and they were inseparable and even the best of friends; that is, up until the time that they turned eleven and were permitted to attend Hogwarts in the fall of 1991. Padma had learned about the houses from Hogwarts from her mother. She had asked her mother quiet questions about the differences between all of the houses and realized even as they arrived at Hogwarts that she and her sister would more than likely be placed into different houses for the first time. She remained loyal to her sister, however, and never let this information take away from her twin’s enthusiastic approach to the school. When she first set the sorting hat upon her head, Padma wasn’t surprised that she’d been sorted to Ravenclaw and that her twin to Gryffindor. She had simply smiled at Parvati as they’d gone to their separate houses and had watched, as her twin seemed to make fast friends with another new girl to Gryffindor, Lavender Brown. She knew that Parvati could handle being away from her, but she also hoped that she could handle being separated from her twin. Ravenclaw was the house where Padma shined. Here she found herself among intellectuals who were more than happy to meet her curious questions with just as curious answers. She became decent friends with Cho Chang her first year, then later became relatively good friends with Luna Lovegood. Padma didn’t care that most had found the odd girl strange and didn’t want to interact with her. She thought she had fascinating ways of looking at the world and loved to hear Luna’s ideas about how everything worked. She made a few close friends during her time as a student, but she stuck mostly to her studies and books became quickly her favorite past time. Padma was fortunate enough to be named Prefect of Ravenclaw house during her fifth year, making both of her parents infinitely proud of her accomplishment. Padma also had the ill luck of having to escort Ronald Weasley to the Yule Ball her fourth year after agreeing to pair up with him when Parvati suggested double dates. At least poor Parvati had managed to snag the more polite of the two boys, as Padma was utterly disgusted with Ron’s rude treatment of her by the end of the ball—though she never would say so to his face. Padma and Parvati had been among some of the students whose parents had wanted to pull them out of school for their safety, but the twins wanted to stay and help their peers for as long as they could. After fighting side by side with her sister and the rest of Dumbledore’s Army at the Battle of Hogwarts and graduating near the top of her class, Padma had returned home to help her parents keep up their home in London. She secured a part-time job working at a local bookstore, while studying to become a Healer herself during whatever spare time she could afford to use. It took her two years, but Parvati had managed to earn a paid internship serving at a nearby, smaller wizarding hospital. She specialized in herbal healing and using aromatherapy during this time, but Padma was more than willing to study every aspect of the art of healing that she could during her internship. She connected her sister’s information about divination and astrology to her own work, and recently has published her an article or two discussing strong connections between the subjects as requirements for her internship. For roughly the past three years, Padma has been working at a small apothecary shoppe as an assistant to a professional healer, while still holding her part-time job at the bookstore to earn extra money for her name. After her father’s death during the Leaky Cauldron bombings, however, Padma had fled home to help her mother cope with the news that she’d just received. When her knowledge alone couldn’t help her mother come out of her grief, Padma had owled Parvati, desperate for assistance, even if she knew her sister was enjoying her limelight as a model. The twins had maintained contact throughout their years after leaving Hogwarts, and Padma was glad that this was one aspect of their relationship that would never change, no matter how much they themselves changed. Padma isn’t exactly what one would call bubbly and outgoing, unlike her twin sister. She’s very analytical, in fact, and still is very adept at reading body language. She’s more reserved then her twin, but Padma’s hardly shy. If asked her opinion, she’ll gladly discuss it with anyone who has interest. Padma would rather observe a situation first before rushing headlong into the chaos and because of this, Parvati has been known to come to Padma asking for explanations as to what’s happening most recently in worldly news. PersonalityShe loves to connect concepts and ideas to what she already knows. How things work and come together has always fascinated Padma, for as long as she could remember, at least. She’s not afraid to ask questions of anyone in order to best understand a situation and, more so, Padma isn’t afraid to use what knowledge she does have to impact a situation. For example, she was extremely relieved and grateful for her knowledge in the art of healing when her mother’s grief nearly destroyed her after their father’s death. Padma had locked herself in a room with her mother in desperate attempt to heal her emotionally, though even what knowledge she did have hadn’t been enough. Padma is, though, curious to meet new people, but like her twin sister, she’s loyal to a fault. Even as a Ravenclaw with all her logic, Padma stands up for what she believes in and knows that family and friends are some of the most important things that one can have in life. | |||||||||
